The Lindenwood women's basketball team will open the 2016-17 season with a two-game stint in Florida. The Lady Lions play Embry-Riddle at 5 p.m. (4 p.m. central) on Friday in Daytona Beach, Fla. before closing out the weekend with a 3 p.m. (2 p.m. central) tip-off against Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. on Sunday.
Lindenwood Notes:
-Lindenwood is coming off of a 69-60 loss to Southern Illinois Edwardsville in the exhibition matchup on Sunday afternoon in Edwardsville, Ill.
-
Charisse Williams and
Kallie Bildner led the team with 10 points apiece.
Hannah Reller grabbed five rebounds and
Alex Haley dished out four assists. Lindenwood made 87.5 percent of its free-throws and made five three-pointers, all of which were made it the first half.
-The Lady Lions had point production from 11 different players including three-pointers scored by four different players.
-Last season, the Lady Lions fell 71-70 to Illinois State in the 2015-16 season-opening exhibition. Lindenwood proceeded to start the season 4-2 in its first six non-conference games.
Friday's Game:
-Lindenwood will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. on Friday to take on Embry-Riddle at 5 p.m. (4 p.m. central) to open the season.
-Friday will be the first meeting between the two schools. Embry-Riddle will play another MIAA school in Central Missouri just 11 days after the Lady Lions visit Daytona Beach, Fla.
Embry-Riddle Notes:
-The Eagles began the women's basketball program in 2014-15 and went 17-12 during that season. Last year, Embry-Riddle finished with a 7-19 record overall and a 5-15 mark in the Sunshine State Conference.
-On Saturday, the Eagles defeated NAIA opponent Ave Maria 85-46 in an exhibition game. Embry-Riddle was led by Sabrina Whiting who dropped 26 points and Mercedes Jorge who tallied 21 points. Tara Fields compiled eight points and 11 rebounds as the Eagles shot 50 percent from the field.
Sunday's Notes:
-Lindenwood will complete the two-game trip in St. Augustine, Fla. for a 3 p.m. (2 p.m. central) tip-off against Flagler College on Sunday afternoon.
-Sunday will be the inaugural meeting between the two schools. Flagler College will take on Embry-Riddle on Saturday at 5 p.m. (4 p.m. central) in St. Augustine, Fla.
Flagler College Notes:
-Flagler is coming off of a 13-14 season with a 9-10 record in the Peach Belt Conference. The Saints return their third-leading scorer in Litisha Speights who averaged 8.6 points per game.
-Speights led the team with 6.6 rebounds per contest and will have help from Tiffany Hodge who snagged 5.3 boards per game.
