Women's Hockey Upended Versus Mercyhurst

The Lindenwood women's hockey team fell to the Mercyhurst Lakers by a score of 4-0 on Friday evening from Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
 
Lindenwood controlled the pace of play to begin the first period, holding Mercyhurst without a shot for 14:09 to open the game. The Lakers would send 10 shots on net over the remaining 5:51, but all were turned aside by the reigning CHA goalie of the month, Jolene deBruyn. Lindenwood posted nine shots on goal during the first period, but were unable to get on the scoreboard, as the period ended even at zero.
 
Mercyhurst would grab a 1-0 lead at the 3:11 mark of the second period, scoring with an extra attacker on the ice following a delayed Lindenwood penalty. Jennifer MacAskill notched the score for the Lakers.
 
Mercyhurst would extend its lead to a two-goal margin late in the middle frame, as Brooke Hartwick ripped a shot into the upper left corner of the goal. The second period came to a close with the Lakers leading 2-0.
 
The Lakers would tally two more goals in the final period, including an empty-net goal, bringing the score to its final result of 4-0. Samantha Fieseler and Hartwick were credited with the third period scores for Mercyhurst.
 
deBruyn registered 29 saves in the game.
 
Shannon Morris-Reade had a team-leading five shots on goal, including four shots in the opening period.
 
Britannia Gillanders won a team-high seven faceoffs, while Cierra Paisley secured six faceoff wins.
 
Following the loss, Lindenwood moves to 2-11-2 and 1-5-1 from within the CHA. With the victory, Mercyhurst improves to 6-10-1 and 3-4-0 in conference action. The two teams will return to Lindenwood Ice Arena tomorrow afternoon as they conclude the two-game series at 1:00 p.m.
