Men's Basketball Loses Regular Season Finale

The Lindenwood men's basketball team ended its regular season on Saturday afternoon in Jefferson City, Mo. with a 69-67 overtime loss to Lincoln.
 
The game was close throughout, with neither team having a lead over six points, and there were 12 ties and 15 lead changes. Lindenwood led by one at halftime by a 28-27 margin, and the two teams continued to battle throughout the second half.
 
Lindenwood took a six-point lead with 7:45 left after back-to-back three-pointers by Cory Arentsen. Lincoln answered though with a 9-0 run to give the momentum back to the home team. Lindenwood took a 55-54 lead with 1:12 remaining on an Arentsen layup, but Lincoln responded with a three-pointer. After a Lions miss, the Blue Tigers made one-of-two free throws to go up by six, but Arentsen sent the game to overtime with another three-pointer with 20 seconds left.
 
In overtime, Lindenwood scored five seconds in when Arentsen hit two free throws. Lincoln scored six straight though and never trailed again. Lincoln hit three-of-four free throws in the final 15 seconds to seal the win.
 
Lindenwood shot 47.3 percent from the field, compared to 41.5 percent for the Blue Tigers. Lincoln hit 10 three-pointers though and shot 52.6 percent from beyond the arc, while Lindenwood hit just three and shot 14.3 percent. Lincoln also had more depth than Lindenwood, as it outscored the Lions 35-4 in bench points.
 
Arentsen finished with 40 points, his third 40-point game this season, and he also led the team with seven assists and two steals. Stanislas Heili led the team with 11 rebounds and three blocks, and Brad Newman had eight points and two steals.
 
Lindenwood ends the regular season with a 15-13 overall record and an 11-11 MIAA mark. The Lions tied for fifth in the MIAA standings, and they will be the ninth seed in the conference tournament. Lindenwood will start the tournament on Tuesday at Pittsburg State.
