Lady Lions Win in the Eighth Inning over Montevallo

The Lindenwood softball team concluded its five-game stay at Gulf Shores, Ala. with a 12-10 victory over Montevallo on Sunday morning.

The Lady Lions jumped on the scoreboard immediately in the first inning after Caitlyn Touchette hit an RBI-single that drove in Brooklyn Sisk and advanced Maria Tippit to third base. Alexandra Newcomb added the second run in the inning with a sacrifice fly out to center field that allowed Tippit to score.

In the second inning, Madison Huot walked in the first at-bat. Sisk came up to the plate with one out then drilled a home run to extend the Lady Lions' lead by a 4-0 margin.

Montevallo responded in the third inning with a two-run double to cut the lead to two. The Lady Lions retired the side, but the Falcons came in the fourth with more answers. The Falcons registered an RBI-single and an RBI-double to tie the game up entering into the fifth inning.

The Lady Lions then stormed through the fifth with a series of runs. Taylor Scott and Mallory Eitel reached base when Bethany Fountain sent a liner into left field that drove in Eitel. Huot came up to bat and blasted a three-run shot, giving the Lady Lions an 8-4 lead.

The Falcons would not go away quietly as they retaliated with a five-run sixth inning. They scored off a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly before sending the ball over the fence and scoring three runs. The Falcons entered the seventh inning with a one-run lead.

Tippit put the Lady Lions back in the lead when she hit a two-run single. The Falcons scored another run in the bottom of the inning, tying the game up at 10 and sending the game into extra innings.

The Lady Lions would score the crucial runs that would ice the game. Rebecca Stocker singled into right field and drove in Newcomb for a one-run lead. Morgan Brown also hit an RB-single to give the Lady Lions a 12-10 lead and victory.

After improving their record to 2-3 on the young season, the Lady Lions hit the road again as they take on two teams in the North Georgia Tournament starting on Saturday, February 13. They will battle the University of North Georgia at noon on Saturday and will take on the University of Charleston at 2:00 p.m.
