Lindenwood's tennis teams traveled to Cleveland, Miss. for a matchup against Delta State on Saturday. Both teams edged out the Statesmen by a final score of 5-4 each.
On the women's side, the Lady Lions won at No. 1 and 2 doubles to give them a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
Anna Barbasheva paired up with
Gloria Marras and dominated by a score of 8-3 at No. 1, while
Diana Castro and
Rebeca Aguilar teamed up to ride through with an 8-3 victory at No. 2.
Barbasheva cruised through her match at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 route, which was her second straight-set victory of the spring.
Clara Piccamiglio, the Lady Lions No. 3 singles player, lost in a three-set match against Emporia State, but that would not happen this time. She won the first 6-4 then battled through a tough 7-5 set. She traded games with her opponent until she broke her serve and won the final set 6-4. Castro nearly pulled off a marathon-match, but fell in a 7-5 tiebreaker in the third set at No. 4 singles. Aguilar once again came out victorious at No. 6 singles as she has won six sets by a 6-0 score this spring.
On the men's side, the Lions fell behind 2-1 after doubles play.
Slobodan Bavrlic and Antoine Barraud teamed up at No. 3 doubles, which they won 8-3. It was Barraud's first doubles match since coming to Lindenwood.
In singles,
Filip Bogic continues to win at No. 1 singles as he won a three-set match to extend his winning streak to four.
Naoufal El Idrissi had little trouble at No. 2 singles, winning 6-3, 6-3. Michele Gaspari picked up his first singles victory of the season at No. 4 by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Bavrlic was the lone Lion to win both of his matches, winning at No. 6 by a final of 7-5, 6-3.
The tennis teams will head back home to host William Woods on March 21 at 4 pm.
