The Lindenwood softball team dropped both games of the doubleheader to Northwest Missouri on Saturday afternoon from Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
Game OneErrors proved costly in the first game of the doubleheader. The visiting Bearcats pushed across three runs in the first inning after an error by starting pitcher
Morgan Colvis. Scoring one from the miscue, Northwest Missouri added two more on an Alexis Kelsey double and Jessica Rawie single.
The Bearcats scored five unearned runs in the third after Rawie hit a groundball to shortstop was booted. After a single, Madison Jones drilled a long homer to right center to bring the score to 8-0.
After Northwest Missouri scored five more runs in the top of the fourth, Lindenwood's bats showed some life in its half of the inning.
Maria Tippit and
Alexis Theis hit back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning and give the Lady Lions their first run of the game. Trying to add more,
Madison Huot grounded out and
Alexandra Newcomb hit a hard liner to centerfield to end the inning.
The 13-1 score would hold to be the final after five innings. Colvis suffered the loss after only throwing one inning. Theis had two hits and the lone RBI for the Lady Lions.
Game TwoAfter getting the first two outs, starter
Bethany Fountain surrendered a pair of hits before ending the threat. It was identical in the second inning as Fountain quickly recorded two outs. This time, however, Northwest Missouri used four singles and a walk to push across three runs.
The Lady Lions had their chance in the bottom of the third. After loading the bases, Bearcats' pitcher Sarah Baldwin walked
Madeline Bohr to bring in the first Lindenwood run of the game. The chance would be spoiled, however, after a pair of groundballs and an infield fly ended the threat.
Fountain was chased from the game in the fourth after surrendering consecutive hits and a walk with two outs.
Rebecca Almus came in relief and limited the damage, but six more runs for the Bearcats made the score 9-1. After getting the first two outs in the fifth, Almus issued a walk and gave up three hits to bring the score to 12-1.
Kaitlyn VanHooser came in relief, and after walking her first hitter, forced a flyout to right field to end the inning.
Brooklyn Sisk doubled down the left-field line with one out in Lindenwood's half of the inning, but that was all the offense could do as the Lady Lions dropped the second game by the score of 12-1.
Sisk had two hits in game two, while Bohr had the Lady Lions other hit. Fountain moved to 3-8 on the season from the circle.
Lindenwood will return to action on Wednesday when its travels to Fontbonne in St. Ann, Mo. for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
