Late Rally Falls Short as No. 3 Women’s Lacrosse Suffers First Loss

The No. 3 ranked Lindenwood women's lacrosse team was defeated by the No. 5 ranked Rollins Tars, 12-11 on Tuesday evening from Barker Family Stadium in Winter Park, Fla.
 
Rollins broke through with the opening goal at the 8:21 mark of the first half, as Kristina Coppolino found the back of the net to put the Tars ahead 1-0. Rollins would extend its lead to 2-0, 3:18 later on the strength of a Kallie German unassisted score. With 17:53 remaining in the opening half of play, Rollins' Taylor Thomas intercepted a pass and ran the length of the field before scoring her team-leading 26th goal of the season, growing the Tars' lead to 3-0. Grayson McPhee capitalized on a free position attempt with 15:38 showing on the clock, pushing Rollins ahead by a score of 4-0. Thomas would light the lamp once again with 10:41 remaining in the first half, moving the Tars in front by a score of 5-0. Jordyn Constance put Lindenwood on the board 1:23 after the fifth Rollins goal with a free position score, her first free position goal of the season. The Tars responded with a goal at the 8:04 mark of the half, regaining their five-goal edge. With the Tars shorthanded following a yellow-card, the Lady Lions would again capitalize on a free position attempt by Hannah Doughty, bringing the score to 6-2. Lindenwood used an unassisted Sophie Buelow score to cut the Rollins lead in half with 1:14 showing on the clock. The Tars would score twice more over the final 48 seconds, taking an 8-3 lead into halftime. Rollins outshot Lindenwood 16-9 during the opening 30 minutes of play.
 
Maddi Ossello opened the second half scoring, tallying an unassisted goal 88 seconds into the second stanza. Just over five minutes after the Ossello goal, Constance registered her second goal of the game off of a feed from Rachel Benzing, making the score 8-5. The Tars would answer by scoring four of the next five goals, establishing a six-goal lead with 9:10 remaining in the game. Lindenwood demonstrated its resiliency, pouring in five consecutive goals, bringing the score to 12-11 with 39 seconds remaining. Benzing, Buelow, Ossello, and Constance scored during the Lady Lion rally, with Benzing scoring twice. Lindenwood failed to even the score over the final 39 seconds, falling by a final score of 12-11.
 
In goal for the Lady Lions, Delaney Solomon turned in eight saves. Shannon Modl caused a pair of turnovers and picked up four ground balls, leading the team. Lindenwood held the advantage in shots (27-25) and shots on goal (21-20). The two teams ended the game each securing 12 draw controls, and each scooping up 14 ground balls. 
 
Following the non-conference loss, Lindenwood moves to 10-1 on the season. With the victory, Rollins improves its record to 9-0. The Lady Lions will return to action on Thursday evening versus the Florida Southern Mocs. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. from Bryant Stadium in Lakeland, Fla.
