The No. 17 ranked Lindenwood men's lacrosse team secured an impressive road victory over the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks on Thursday afternoon from Rochester, N.Y. prevailing by a final score of 12-4.
David Corazalla opened the afternoon's scoring just 1:48 into the first quarter, giving the Lions an early 1-0 advantage. Midfielder
Sean Darroch followed Corazalla's score with a goal of his own just 92 seconds later, moving Lindenwood ahead 2-0. The Lions would strike two more times before the end of the first quarter, receiving even strength goals from
Josh Coons and Corazalla. Lindenwood ended the opening 15 minutes of play with a 4-0 lead.
Jon George tallied the first goal during the second stanza, finding the back of the net with 11:47 remaining in the quarter. Lindenwood would tack on three more goals during the remainder of the first half, as Coons, Darroch, and Corazalla all lit the lamp again.
Each team would notch one goal during the third quarter, as the Lions carried a 9-1 lead into the final 15 minutes of play. Coons registered the sole Lindenwood goal during the third quarter, his third score of the afternoon, and fourth multi-goal game of the season.
The Lions and Redhawks alternated goals during the fourth quarter, each scoring three times. The Lions received goals from
Kyle Lee,
Isaiah Kozak, and Darroch. With both teams recording three goals in the quarter, the game ended with a final score of 12-4.
In goal for Lindenwood,
Ben Besancenez turned in nine saves en route to his sixth win of the season. The Lions received hat-trick performances from Darroch, Coons, and Corazalla.
Kevin Eskridge scooped up a team-high four ground balls, while six Lions tied for the team-lead in caused turnovers.
Tyler Schermann paced Lindenwood in the faceoff circle, winning seven draws.
For the game, the Lions outshot the Redhawks 43-28. Lindenwood failed to convert on any of its six extra-man opportunities, while also preventing Roberts Wesleyan from capitalizing on either of its man-up chances.
With the win, Lindenwood improves its season record to 6-3. In defeat, Roberts Wesleyan moves to 3-7. The Lions will conclude their current three-game road trip with an ECAC matchup versus the Mercyhurst Lakers on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. eastern from Erie, Pa.
