The No. 6 ranked Lindenwood women's lacrosse team defeated the No. 15 ranked Regis Rangers 14-10 in an RMAC showdown on Tuesday evening in Denver, Colo.
Regis opened the games' scoring early in the first half, scoring at the 2:26 mark to gain the early 1-0 lead. Lindenwood responded with four-consecutive goals over a nine-minute stretch, to build a three-goal lead.
Maddi Ossello,
Allison Hurley, and
Sarah Cromer were the goal scorers for the Lady Lions, with Hurley scoring twice. Regis would put an end to the Lindenwood run with 12:03 remaining in the half, cutting the Lady Lion lead in half at 4-2. Lindenwood and Regis would alternate the final five scores in the first half, helping the Lady Lions carry a 7-4 lead into halftime. Of the final three Lady Lion goals,
Sophie Buelow would find the back of the cage twice, while
Hannah Doughty lit the lamp once.
Lindenwood poured in four of the first six goals during the beginning 20 minutes of play in the second half, extending its margin to five goals at 11-6. Doughty,
Rachel Benzing, and
Amanda Schimpke twice were responsible for the Lady Lion goals. The Rangers attempted a late rally, outscoring the Lady Lions 4-3 over the final eight minutes of play, bringing the game to its final score of 14-10.
In goal for the Lady Lions,
Rachel Ortell turned in eight saves en route to her sixth win of the season. Lindenwood received goal contributions from eight different players, while nine Lady Lions' tallied at least one point. Hurley paced Lindenwood with three goals and two assists, extending her team-leading point total to 48 points.
For the game, Regis held the advantage in draw controls (14-12) and ground balls (23-21), while Lindenwood had the edge in shots (30-25). The Lady Lions were 13-18 on their clear attempts, while the Rangers were 10-12.
With the 14-10 victory, Lindenwood improves its season record to 12-2 and 4-0 within the RMAC. Following the defeat, Regis moves its record to 10-2 and 2-1 in conference play. The Lady Lions will return to action on Thursday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. from Pueblo, Colo. for an RMAC matchup with the Colorado State Pueblo Thunderwolves.
