Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse (Discontinued) |

Men's Lacrosse Takes Down Rockhurst on Senior Day

The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team sent their seniors off with a 10-5 victory over Rockhurst for their final regular season game at home on Saturday afternoon.

In the pre-game, four seniors – Tyler Eidel, Andrew Szczepan, Troy O'Donnell, and Jon George - were each honored for their academic accomplishments and time spent for the lacrosse program. All of them were named starters for the game.

Eidel got things started for the Lions as he scored the first goal of the day at the 8:58 mark in the first quarter. Josh Coons followed suit with a goal just 34 seconds later after Sam Heaton found him for the score. After the Hawks scored their first goal, Connor Eskridge responded with a goal of his own unassisted to give the Lions a 3-1 lead heading into the second quarter.

Neither team scored for the first seven minutes of the quarter until Max Troha recorded his third goal of the season to give the Lions a three-goal lead. Heaton added onto his offensive stat-sheet with his fifth goal of the season at the 5:40 mark. The Hawks scrapped up a goal with just three seconds left after forcing a turnover two seconds before the goal. The Lions led 5-2 heading into the locker rooms.

In the third quarter, Eskridge registered his second goal of the day after David Corazalla zipped a pass for the score. Coons did the same, scoring his second goal of the day at the 3:05 mark. Rockhurst scored a goal just before the end of the quarter as the Lions held a 7-3 lead.

Coons scored his third goal of the day after the Hawks posted another goal. Heaton scored his second goal and fourth goal for the season at the 8:20 mark to give the Lions a 9-5 lead. And with just 35 seconds remaining, Szczepan sprinted through the Hawk defense to give himself his first goal of the season, joining Eidel as the seniors to score on senior day.

The Lions controlled the offensive side of the ball for the majority of the game, shooting 51 times to Rockhurst's 22. The Lions also picked up more groundballs, collecting 33 to the Hawks' 26. Tyler Schermann dominated the face-offs, converting 14 on 18 attempts while also luring in nine groundballs. Matt Leonard led the Lions with three caused-turnovers while five other Lions registered one each. Ben Besancenez saved seven shots and held the opponent to under 10 goals for the eighth consecutive outing. He also reduced his goals-against-average down to 7.30 after coming in with a 7.50 average.

The Lions will conclude their regular season after taking on Colorado Mesa in a neutral site game at Kansas City, Mo. The game will start on Friday, April 29 at 1 pm.
