The Lindenwood baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader versus MIAA foe Northeastern State on Friday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
In game one the Lions fell behind 1-0 after the top of the first inning, but bounced back in the bottom half.Â
Wes Degener tied the game with a solo blast over the right field wall, and
Kyle Teter drove in
Nathan Prindle to give the Lions a 2-1 lead. Lindenwood picked up another pair of runs in the second inning on a two-RBI double by
Mike Ehrhard, to put the Lions up 4-1.
The RiverHawks finally found offense against starting pitcher
Connor Law in the fifth inning. The Lions surrendered two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two more in the seventh to fall behind 6-4. Lindenwood pulled within one run on a Prindle home run, but the Lions could not rally back and fell 8-5.
In game two the Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the third inning as
Mike Ehrhard singled through the right side of the infield to score
Nathan Prindle from second base. The RiverHawks would even the score in the fifth inning, following a two-out RBI single from Shane Bridges. Lindenwood's
Brendan Kleekamp would strand runners on the corners to end the fifth frame.
Northeastern State led off the top of the eighth inning with a triple, placing the go-ahead run 90 feet away with nobody out. Two batters later, the RiverHawks' Eric Kirkpatrick singled to centerfield, sending Northeastern State ahead by a score of 2-1. The RiverHawks would add on an insurance run during the top of the ninth inning, moving in front by the eventual final of 3-1.
Following the two losses, Lindenwood moves its season record to 21-26Â and 15-21 from within the MIAA. The Lions will conclude their regular season schedule on May 5-7 during a three-game series with the Pittsburg State Gorillas from Pittsburg, Kan. Â
