Men's Volleyball Ends Season With Loss At Ohio State

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team lost three close sets on Saturday night in Columbus, Ohio to Ohio State University to fall 3-0 in the team's season finale. 

The Lions hung with Ohio State through the first 10 points as the teams were tied at 5-5. A kill by the Buckeyes to give them their biggest lead of the first set made the score 24-17 before Lindenwood managed a couple points to cut into the lead. Ohio State used a kill to end the first set 25-19. 

The second set saw poor hitting from both teams. Jake Duckworth made the score 16-15 in favor of the Buckeyes, but three consecutive attack errors by the Lions gave Ohio State a four point lead it would not surrender to win 25-22. In the set, Lindenwood had a hitting percentage of .031 as the Buckeyes recorded a .167 percentage to pull out the win. 

Lindenwood tallied its best hitting percentage of the match in the third set with .267, but Ohio State also did the same. After going back and forth the first half of the set, Lindenwood had its first lead of the set at 15-14. Ohio State took the lead 19-16 after four kills by Nicolas Szerszen. The Lions clawed back to even the score at 23-23, but the Buckeyes secured the win with consecutive points to take the match 3-0. 

Ryan Moore led the team with eight kills, while Duckworth and Michael Chard each had seven. Roman Seghezzi recorded 30 assists in the loss. 

Lindenwood had a .908 serve percentage and had 27 digs compared to Ohio State's 25. The Lions also out-blocked the Buckeyes 12-8, but Ohio State's hitting percentage of .345 compared to Lindenwood's .165 gave the Buckeyes the sweep.

The win secured Ohio State the regular season MIVA championship. The loss ends Lindenwood's season with a record of 5-17 and 3-13 in the MIVA.
