The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team concluded the ECAC Tournament with a second place finish after falling to Mercyhurst by a final score of 11-7 on Sunday.
The Lions struggled to contain the Laker offense as the Lakers scored five goals in the first quarter.
Kyle Lee and
Tyler Eidel each shot on goal, but both were saved. However, the Lions responded with fury in the second quarter they scored four goals and shut out the Lakers. At the 7:32 mark,
Connor Eskridge started the scoring frenzy with his first goal of the day followed by a goal by
Josh Coons. Eskridge scored again at the 3:54 mark in which Eidel followed suit with his first goal of the game. The Lions cut the lead down to one goal heading into halftime.
Both teams exchanged goals in the beginning of the third quarter including a sling by
Max Troha. However, the Lakers extended their lead to three goals after scoring at the 11:10 and 6:42 marks. Before the end of the quarter, the Lions managed to tally one more goal.
Once again, both teams responded to each other with goals in which Eidel scored his second goal of the game. However, the Lakers iced the game with two more scores.
Eidel led the Lions on the offensive side of the ball as he took six shots and scored twice. Eskridge was the lone Lion to record a goal and an assist for the game.
Connor Laird caused two more turnovers after forcing two in the last game against Lake Erie. The Lions converted 14 of 16 clear attempts and 11 of 21 face-offs.
Three Lions were named to the ECAC All-Tournament Team – Coons, Eskridge, and Eidel. Each scored three goals during the tournament with Eskridge assisting once.
Lindenwood will wait to learn whether they will receive a bid to the NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Championship. The selection show will be Sunday night at 7:30 p.m., and will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
