Lindenwood men's and women's tennis coasted through in their first dual match of the fall against Missouri Baptist University before rain started to pour on Thursday afternoon. The men shut out the Spartan with five wins while the women won 5-1.
The Lions won close battles at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles with 8-5 and 9-7 victories respectively. They also won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles to jump ahead to a 3-0 lead entering into singles.
In singles, the Lions completed just two matches before it started to storm. Tudor Ghenea gathered a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles while Antoine Barraud prevailed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4.
Theo Butaeye was leading by a set at No. 1 before they stopped.
The Lady Lions dominated at No. 2 and 3 doubles with 8-2 and 8-0 wins respectively. They dropped at No. 1 before they headed into singles with a 2-1 lead.
They managed to pick up three victories behind straight sets performances from
Anna Barbasheva,
Rebeca Aguilar, and
Alexis McCarthy at No. 3, 5, and 6 respectively. Newcomer Tereza Melicharkova and
Clara Piccamiglio were both leading by a set at No. 1 and 4 respectively.
Lindenwood will travel to Fulton, Mo. on Saturday, October 1 to take on William Woods University at 10:30 am.
