Both Lindenwood tennis teams continue to jumpstart their seasons at a strong rate, knocking off Lindenwood-Belleville on Wednesday afternoon. The men ousted the Lynx by a final score of 7-2 while the women completed their first shutout of the year.
Filip Bogic and
Naoufal El Idrissi made their dual debut for the 2016-17 season by dominating No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 victory. The Lynx coasted to a win at No. 2 doubles, but the Lions would win the doubles portion after
Anvar Akhmetov and Tudor Ghenea overcame a 9-7 nail-biting duel at No. 3.
Bogic, El Idrissi, and Michele Gaspari each won in cruise control at No. 1, 2, and 6 singles respectively while Antoine Barraud defeated his opponent in a 6-4, 6-3 competitive battle at No. 5. The Lynx took No. 4 singles, but the Lions garnered a three-set win at No. 3 behind
Theo Butaeye's come-from-behind performance. He fell in the first set 6-1 then bounced back with a 6-1, 6-4 route. The Lions stand with a 2-0 record in dual play.
The Lady Lions had little to no problem handling the Lady Lions, only allowing four games in singles play and six in doubles.
Tereza Melicharkova and
Clara Piccamiglio paired up at No. 1 doubles and glided to an 8-0 shutout while the tandem of
Anna Barbasheva and
Diana Castro followed suit with an 8-1 route.
Rebeca Aguilar and
Alexis McCarthy played a competitive match at No. 3 that resulted into an 8-5 win and a 3-0 lead for the Lady Lions.
Melicharkova, Barbasheva, McCarthy, and Castro each won their match without dropping a single game at No. 1, 2, 5, and 6 respectively. Piccamiglio and Aguilar dropped just two games each at 3 and 4. Like the men, the women own a 2-0 record.
Both teams will travel to Fulton, Mo. to take on NAIA-opponent William Woods on Saturday, October 1. Matches will begin at 10:30 am.
