First-Half Goal Dooms Men’s Soccer at Quincy

The Lindenwood men's soccer team fell to the Quincy Hawks 1-0 on Monday evening from Legends Stadium in Quincy, Ill. The match was part of the 2016 Alumni Cup hosted by Quincy University.

From the opening draw, much of the first-half action was seen on Lindenwood defensive end of the field. As a result of its sustained pressure, Quincy outshot Lindenwood by a margin of 8-1. The Hawks efforts eventually paid off in the 35th minute as Pete Condol scored off of a rebound opportunity, giving Quincy a 1-0 lead. The Hawks carried the one-goal lead into halftime.

Lindenwood's frustrations continued during the second-half, as the team was unable to find the equalizing goal over the final 45 minutes of play.

Nijaz Muratovic led the way for the Lions with two shots on goal. Xhovani Dokaj, Jose Sanchez, and Noah Savage all recorded shots during the match. Aleksa Nenadic faced five shots on goal, and turned in a four save performance. The start in goal was the third of the season for Nenadic.

In the end, the Hawks held the edge in shots (15-5), shots on goal (5-2), and corner kicks (8-5).

Following the loss, the Lions move to 1-1-1 on the season. With the victory, the Hawks improve to 2-0-0. Lindenwood will return to action on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. for a non-conference clash with the Christian Brothers Buccaneers from Memphis, Tenn.
