Men's Basketball Sets Free-Throw Record In Non-Conference Win

The Lindenwood men's basketball team set a school record for free-throw shooting on Monday night at Hyland Arena during a 76-62 non-conference win over Cumberland.

The Lions were a perfect 22-of-22 from the free-throw line in the game. It was the seventh time that the program did not miss a free-throw attempt in a game while shooting 10 or more shots. The 22 made free throws were 10 more than the previous high on a perfect shooting night. Both Chandler Diekvoss and Dominique Dobbs were seven-of-seven from the line. Bakari Triggs made three, Jackson Price and Brenon Larson-Gulsvig had two each, and LJ McIntosh had one.

The two teams were tied for the first 9:30 of the game, but an 8-0 run put the Lions up 24-16. McIntosh started the run with a three-pointer, and also had a three-point play to cap off the run. Lindenwood's lead hit 10 twice, and it went into halftime with a 39-30 advantage.

In the second half, Lindenwood's defense help the team pull away from the Phoenix. Lindenwood led 44-38 when it held Cumberland without a point for over four minutes. Lindenwood went on a 10-0 run in that span to build a comfortable lead. An 11-1 run later on in the period sealed the contest.

Besides its free-throw shooting, Lindenwood also shot over 50 percent from the field, finishing with 53.2 percent on the night. The Lions defense forced 21 turnovers, and committed 14 less fouls in the game.  Cumberland made just seven free throws, 15 less than the Lions.

Diekvoss led Lindenwood with 23 points, including making eight-of-12 shots from the field. He also collected two assists and two steals. Dominique Dobbs had 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds. McIntosh had 11 points, all in the first half, which helped the Lions jump out to an early lead. Triggs had a season-high nine points, and he and McIntosh both had three steals.

Lindenwood improves to 11-5 on the season, including a 10-2 mark in non-conference games. The Lions return to conference action this Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Northeastern State.
