The Lindenwood women's hockey team was defeated by the RIT Tigers in the finale of a two-game series from the Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester, N.Y. RIT used a third-period power-play tally to win the game by a final score of 1-0.
The two teams skated even during the first period of play, with each side registering 11 shots on goal. Lindenwood goaltender
Jolene deBruyn stopped all 11 shots sent her way, as did her counterpart, Jenna de Jonge on the opposite side of the ice. Lindenwood and RIT headed into the first intermission even at 0-0.
The second period consisted of more neutral zone time with fewer scoring chances than the first period. Both teams totaled seven shots during the middle period, and after 40 minutes of play the game remained scoreless.
After 8:45 of action to begin the third period, Lindenwood's
Emma Hare was called for a two-minute checking penalty, sending RIT to the power play. The Tigers would capitalize on the power-play chance with 26 seconds remaining on the advantage, grabbing a 1-0 lead. Reagan Rust was credited with the power-play goal for RIT.
Rust's power-play goal would prove to be the game-winning score, as RIT maintained its one-goal lead for the duration of the third period.
deBruyn finished the afternoon with 25 saves.
Each team had 26 shots for the game.
Cierra Paisley led Lindenwood with seven shots on goal, followed by
Sarah Bobrowski's total of four shots.
On special teams, Lindenwood failed to convert on its two power-play opportunities. RIT scored on one of its three power-play chances.
Following the loss, Lindenwood moves to 5-18-2 and 3-10-1 in conference play. With the victory, RIT improves to 6-20-2 and 4-8-2 in CHA action. The Lady Lions will have a 12-day break before returning to action on February 10-11 for a two-game series with the Penn State Nittany Lions. The series will be played at Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on February 10, followed by a 1:00 p.m. start time on February 11.
