The Lindenwood women's hockey team posted a 2-0 shutout victory over the Syracuse Orange on Saturday afternoon from the Tennity Ice Pavilion in Syracuse, N.Y. Lindenwood goaltender
Jolene deBruyn stopped all 24 shots she faced en route to her second-career shutout.
Lindenwood and Syracuse skated even for the first two periods, as both teams entered the final frame scoreless.
Just 2:12 into the third period,
Sierra Burt found the back of the net for the Lions, giving Lindenwood a 1-0 lead.
Cierra Paisley and
Taylor Girard were credited with the assists on Burt's third goal of the season.
Lindenwood withstood the Syracuse attack for the remainder of the third period, as deBruyn collected 12 saves over the final 20 minutes of action.
With time winding down in regulation and the Syracuse goaltender pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Girard tacked on an insurance tally for Lindenwood.
Girard's empty-net goal pushed the game to its final score of 2-0. Paisley and
Britannia Gillanders picked up the assists on Girard's team-leading 10th goal of the year.
deBruyn finished the afternoon with 24 saves, and her second-career shutout. Lindenwood has now recorded two shutouts this season, matching a single-season program record.
Syracuse outshot Lindenwood 24-18 for the game.
Mariah Hinds and
Shannon Morris-Reade each had three shots to tie for the team lead.
With the victory, Lindenwood improves to 3-10-1 and 3-5-0 in CHA action. The Lions will return to action on Dec. 6-7 during a two-game set against Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn.
