The Lindenwood tennis teams traveled to Springfield, Mo. over the weekend to take on Oklahoma Baptist and Drury in dual matches.
Lindenwood vs. Oklahoma Baptist
The men's squad fell to 3-4 on the season when it was defeated by the Bison 8-1. The No. 1 doubles pairing between
Filip Bogic and
Naoufal El Idrissi came the closest to capturing a victory in doubles when it fell 8-6.
In singles, Bogic was the lone Lion to win a match, collecting a 6-4, 6-3 straight-set victory at No. 1. El Idrissi split sets at No. 2 when he won the first set in a tiebreaker followed by falling in the next two sets.
The women lost to the Bison 9-0 with most of the closest matches occurring in singles.
Anna Barbasheva, the No. 2 singles player for the Lady Lions, lost 6-4, 6-4 while
Clara Piccamiglio fell 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4.
Lindenwood vs. Drury
The Lions sealed one victory in doubles in the 8-1 loss to the Drury Panthers. Bogic and El Idrissi competed in a tightly-contested match that resulted into a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles.
In singles, Bogic split sets with his opponent, but fell 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1. El Idrissi fell in a competitive 6-4, 6-2 defeat at No. 2 while
Corentin Seywart played a close match at No. 6, losing 6-3, 6-4.
The women picked up a win in doubles in the 8-1 defeat to the Panthers. Doubles was competitive across the board as No. 1 and 2 doubles each lost 8-5 in close matches.
Alexis McCarthy and
Haya Hamed paired up at No. 3 to defeat their opponents by a final score of 8-4.
Tereza Melicharkova competed at No. 1 singles and made it a match, but fell 6-3, 6-4.
Both teams will take lengthy breaks as the men will face Southwest Baptist next on March 10 while the women take on UMSL on March 8.
