The Lindenwood wrestling team wrapped up its 2016-17 campaign after
Kyle Jolas represented the Lions at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Friday hosted in Birmingham, Ala.
Jolas, wrestling at 165 pounds, entered the mat to face Alonzo Turner of Findlay. They went the distance, but Turner racked just enough points to slip by Jolas with a 5-3 decision.
Before the second session commenced, the wrestlers and coaches of schools were recognized during the Grand March for their accomplishment of reaching the national championship. Jolas walked out with
Jimmy Rollins, who completed his first year as the head coach of Lindenwood.
In the consolation, Jolas faced MIAA-rival Calvin Ochs of Nebraska Kearney. When down 4-1, Jolas executed a takedown to cut the lead to 4-3. However, Ochs rebounded to a 9-4 win.
Jolas concludes his junior season by compiling a 20-13 overall record along with back-to-back appearances in the national championship, reaching that pinnacle last year. He placed second in the Super Regionals for the second time in his career two weeks ago. Lindenwood finishes its season with a 7-5 record in dual play.
