The Lindenwood men's tennis team defeated St. Thomas Aquinas on the road on Monday by a final score of 6-3 while the women's match against Mobile was rained out.
In doubles, the Lions collected two much-needed wins at No. 1 and 3.
Filip Bogic and
Naoufal El Idrissi cruised to an 8-3 victory at No. 1 while
Anvar Akhmetov and
Adrian Beloqui battled out an entertaining tiebreaking win at No. 3 to give the Lions a 2-1 lead.
In singles, the Lions grabbed two out of the three matches that went to three sets.
Michele Gaspari lost the first set 6-4, but rebounded to a 6-4 second-set win and a 10-3 tiebreaker to clinch a victory at No. 4.
Corentin Seywart also lost his first set 6-4 only to easily win 6-1 in the second. He had to squeeze by in the tiebreaker 11-9 to collect the win at No. 6 for the Lions.
Theo Butaeye nearly came out with a victory at No. 3, but fell in the super tiebreaker by a score of 10-8. Bogic and El Idrissi completed their big day with straight-set wins at No. 1 and 2 respectively.
Both teams will be at it again tomorrow when they take on Eckerd at 3 pm CT.
