No. 2 Women’s Lacrosse Defeats McKendree and Adams State in Doubleheader

The No. 2 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team posted two victories during the first doubleheader in its program history on Tuesday from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. The Lady Lions doubled up McKendree during the first leg of the twin bill, 18-9, before taking down Adams State by a final score of 18-1.

Lindenwood 18 – McKendree 9
Lindenwood got off to a strong start, scoring just 12 seconds into play, to take a lead it would hold for the remainder of the game. Morgan Judd found the back of the cage off of a feed from Sophie Buelow, to put the Lady Lions in front 1-0.

Just 35 seconds later, Carly Fedorowski capitalized on a free-position attempt, bringing the score to 2-0 in favor of Lindenwood.

Over the next 10:22, Lindenwood and McKendree would each score three goals, as the Lady Lions took a 5-3 lead. Hannah Doughty, Maria Johnson, and Buelow tallied the Lindenwood goals during the stretch.

The Lady Lions would outscore the Bearcats by a 5-2 margin to close out the first half, taking a 10-5 lead into halftime. Cassie Stucklen, Buelow, and Johnson all scored once, while Judd lit the lamp twice for Lindenwood.

Rachel Benzing opened the second-half scoring for the Lady Lions just 45 seconds into the frame, her first of two goals during the game. Benzing finished the afternoon with a game-high with seven points.

Lindenwood continued its strong play for the duration of the final half, scoring seven more times, while limiting McKendree to just four second-half goals.

Sarah Goetz caused a team-high three turnovers, while Erin Abbott and Benzing each scooped up a team-high four groundballs.

Rachel Ortell established a new single-game program record with a 16-save performance in goal for Lindenwood. Ortell made nine saves during the first half, before turning in seven stops over the final 30 minutes, en route to earning her fifth win of the season.

Lindenwood 18 – Adams State 1
Lindenwood built itself a 12-1 first-half lead, before tacking on six more goals during the second half of its eventual 18-1 win. Stucklen paced the Lady Lions in their second game of the day, registering a team-high five goals and seven points.  Sarah Cromer and Goetz each notched hat tricks during the game, while Xenia Du Mont pitched in with two scores.

Delaney Solomon earned her second victory of the season in goal for Lindenwood.

The Lady Lions caused 13 turnovers during the game, and boasted five players with multiple turnovers caused.

After its two victories on Tuesday, Lindenwood improves to 8-0 and 4-0 from within the RMAC. The Lady Lions will return to action on Thursday afternoon from Allendale, Mich. for a non-conference showdown with the No. 16 Grand Valley State Lakers. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. ET/3:00 p.m. CT.
