Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse (Discontinued) |

Three Lions Register At Least Three Points in Loss to No. 2 Limestone

The No. 4-ranked Lindenwood men's lacrosse team lost to the No. 2-ranked Limestone Saints on the road by a final score of 12-7 on Saturday.

In the first quarter, the Saints struck first almost immediately when they registered a goal 21 seconds into the game. However, the Lions responded just two minutes later thanks to Kevin Eskridge tallying a goal off an assist from Josh Coons.

The Saints put their feet on the gas throughout the rest of the half, scoring three more goals in the first period then following up with four more in the second quarter. The Lions did initiate offense during that time span as they attempted 18 total shots to the Saints' 22. However, only eight of the Lions' shots landed on-goal. Both teams headed into halftime with the Saints leading 7-1.

Momentum shifted over to the Lions' side in the opening of the second half. Eskridge converted a pass from David Corazalla into a goal followed up by Coons finding the back of the net off a pass from Eskridge. Max Troha carried on that scoring frenzy with an unassisted goal to cut the Saints' lead to three within the first five minutes of the third quarter. However, the Saints retaliated right back by streaking four goals in a row to increase their lead to 11-4 by the beginning of the fourth quarter.

In an attempt to make their second comeback victory in a row, the Lions applied pressure on the Saints' defense starting with a goal from Sean Darroch at the 8:43 mark followed up by a goal each from Eskridge and Coons. The Saints would then shut down the Lions' aggressive offense for the remainder of the game and score one additional goal to conclude the game.

Despite the loss, the Lions outshot the Saints by a 42-38 margin and picked up only one more groundball than the Saints. Seven different Lions caused at least one turnover while Max Hood forced two. Darroch contributed on both sides of the ball, registering one goal, two assists, three groundballs, and a forced turnover. Eskridge scored three goals and assisted once while also scooping up six groundballs. Coons, like the other two players, recorded at least a goal (two) and an assist while picking up five groundballs.

After the loss, the Lions fall to 7-2 on the season. They will have a week off to prepare for a home-matchup with the University of Indianapolis on Saturday, April 1 starting at 1 pm.
