The No. 2 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team defeated the No. 9 West Chester Golden Rams on Saturday afternoon from West Chester, Pa. by a final score of 17-7. The victory helped Lindenwood extend its program record winning streak to 14 games to open the season, and was the team's 11th victory in the last 19 days.
West Chester wasted little time taking a 1-0 lead, as it scored the opening goal just 32 seconds into play. The Golden Rams maintained the one-goal advantage for the first 6:05, before Lindenwood evened the score at 1-1.
Carly Fedorowski tallied the first goal of the afternoon for Lady Lions, her third goal in the last two games.
Morgan Judd would give Lindenwood its first lead of the game just 45 seconds after the Fedorowski goal, putting the Lady Lions ahead by a score of 2-1.
Sophie Buelow added to Lindenwood's lead shortly after, scoring off of an assist from
Maria Johnson.
West Chester converted on a free-position attempt, scoring its second goal of the game with just over 21 minutes remaining in the half, bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of Lindenwood.
Hannah Doughty helped the Lady Lions reestablish their two-goal lead, scoring an unassisted goal at the 20:27 mark of the period. Doughty's goal ignited a scoring stretch for Lindenwood that saw it outscore West Chester by a 7-1 count for the duration of the half, and helped the Lady Lions carry a 10-3 lead into halftime.
During the run, Lindenwood received two first-half scores from
Cassie Stucklen and Buelow.
Erin Abbott and Fedorowski each found the back of the cage once for the Lady Lions as the team extended its lead to seven goals after 30 minutes.
West Chester scored the first goal of the second half, moving within six goals of Lindenwood with 25:13 remaining in the contest.
Buelow would score her fourth goal of the afternoon just 63 seconds later, putting the Lady Lions back in front by seven goals.
Sarah Goetz and Judd scored the next two goals of the game for either side, pushing Lindenwood ahead by a score of 13-4 with just over 17 minutes left to play.
Following a West Chester goal with 16:10 showing on the clock, Lindenwood began a 4-2 scoring run over the game's final 12 minutes to bring the contest to its final score of 17-7. Lindenwood received goals from Johnson, Abbott, Judd, and
Allison Hurley during the run.
Rachel Ortell started her ninth game of the season in net for Lindenwood, stopping six of the 13 shots sent her way. Ortell now has six games with at least five saves this season.
Abbott led Lindenwood with five groundballs, while Fedorowski caused a team-high two turnovers. Johnson, Modl, and Stucklen all secured two draw controls apiece to pace the Lady Lions.
Following the non-conference victory, Lindenwood improves its record to 14-0. The Lady Lions will enjoy a two-week break before the next scheduled game on April 15. Lindenwood will return to action against No. 7 Limestone from Gaffney, S.C. at 7:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. CT.
