Lady Lions Complete Season Sweep of Lincoln, Score 24 Runs In Doubleheader Win

Pauley (twice), Fozzard, and Koffron all homered on the day.

The Lindenwood softball team has now won eight of its last nine games after completing the season sweep of Lincoln on Wednesday afternoon in Jefferson City, Mo. Austine Pauley hit a three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning in game one to secure the victory, and hit her second dinger of the day in game two to provide insurance runs for the Lady Lions to win, 12-7.

Kimberly Fozzard earned the win in each contest, striking out five in 6.2 innings of work.

Bethany Fountain collected six hits on the day, raising her batting average to .471 in 34 at-bats. Fozzard drove in three, while Pauley knocked in seven runs. Faith Koffron had three hits in the nigthcap including her second homer of the season and a double.

Game One

After Adele Linderman drew a walk to lead off the game, Lindenwood hitters were sent down in order until one out in the third inning.

Stormee Galka reached on an error, and five straight hits by the Lady Lions resulted in a crooked number on the scoreboard. Maddie Bohr singled home Linderman and Galka, and Pauley tripled to score Hannah Johnson and Fountain to give Lindenwood the 4-0 lead.

The Lady Lions tallied on another run in the top of the fourth inning, which would prove to be beneficial after Lincoln score five runs in its half of the frame, including two unearned tallies.

Lindenwood regained the lead, scoring one run each of the next three innings. Winning 8-5 with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Galka faced her final batter of the contest as she surrendered a game-tying three-run homer to knot the game at eight apiece.

To begin extra innings, Fozzard was placed on second base after relieving Galka. Linderman bunted her over to third base and Bohr hit a sacrifice fly for Lindenwood to retake the lead. Johnson and Fountain singled following the run, which set Pauley up for her second extra-base hit of the game and her fourth home run of the season for the 12-8 lead.

Fozzard allowed three singles and one run in her 1.2 innings of work, but the lead was safe enough as Lindenwood held on for the 12-9 victory.

Game Two

The Lady Lions scored another 12 runs en route to their third straight victory. Fountain got Lindenwood on the board in the first inning, scoring Morgan Brown to even the game at 1-1.

Koffron continued her hot hitting in limited action this season, drilling her second homer of the season in the second.

After Lincoln tallied three runs in its half of the third inning, Lindenwood responded with five of its own. Fountain doubled home Brown before she scored when Pauley reached on an error. Koffron singled to score Pauley, and two batters later Fozzard her fifth home run of the year to increase the lead to 7-4.

The Blue Tigers and Lady Lions exchanged three runs in the fifth inning, and Pauley put the game away in the sixth when she hit her second long ball of the afternoon to make the score 12-7.

Lindenwood has now won three in a row and improved its record to 18-19 on the season. The Lady Lions wil end the regular season with five MIAA doubleheaders beginning this Friday against Pittsburg State at Lou Brock Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. as the team will be hosting Student-Appreciation Day.
