No. 10 Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past Rockhurst

The No. 10-ranked Lindenwood men's lacrosse team defeated Rockhurst by a final score of 14-10 on the road on Thursday evening.

The Lions produced the most of their offense in the first quarter as they outscored the Hawks by a 5-3 margin. The Hawks held three different leads in which they only separated themselves by one goal. Leonard Jones stamped the first score of the game for the Lions to tie the game up at one goal apiece at the 8:46 mark. After the Hawks regained the lead at the 6:51 mark, the Lions evened the score back up 31 seconds later when Sean Darroch punched in a score off an assist from Jones. The Hawks retaliated with their third goal at the 4:57 mark before the Lions went on a scoring spree. David Corazalla received a helper from Kevin Eskridge to tie the score at the 3:07 mark followed by an unassisted goal by Sam Heaton under a minute later. Jones tacked on his second goal of the quarter with just 1:35 remaining to give the Lions a 5-3 lead.

In the second quarter, the Lions piled onto their score by adding three more goals and allowed just one. Garrett Brunsvold continued the Lions' aggressive offensive attack by scoring an unassisted goal at the 10:52 mark to extend the Lions' lead to three. The Hawks responded with a goal of their own at the 8:48 mark, and neither team would score until under five minutes left of the quarter. Heaton took advantage of a Hawks' penalty by scoring his second man-up goal of the season with 4:37 left. Connor Laird, a defender, scored his first goal of the season just a minute later to deliver a four-goal lead for Lindenwood entering halftime.

As the second half began, Jones came right out of the gate and added onto his big day by registering two goals within the first two minutes of the quarter. Both teams could not score for the next ten minutes of play until the Hawks cut down the score to 10-5 with 3:50 left. Corazalla fired back with his team-leading 22nd goal of the season to conclude the third quarter.

The Hawks fought back in the fourth quarter by scoring five goals, but it would not be enough to slow down the Lions. Jones scored his career-high fifth goal of the game at the 12:43 mark. Bryan Bevelhimer recorded his second goal of the season while Josh Coons scored the final goal for the Lions at the 1:26 mark.

Overall, the Lions only shot one less than the Hawks did for the game while both teams saved seven shots each. Gabe Monteleone made his mark on the game by scooping up a season-high six groundballs and forcing two turnovers. Tyler Schermann won the faceoff battle by converting 18 times out of 26 attempts.

After the victory, the Lions improve to 8-3 on the season. They will travel to Lake Erie for a matchup with the Storm on Thursday, April 20 starting at 10 a.m. CT.
