Lions Complete Comeback on Sunday, Win 6-5

The Lindenwood baseball team put together a comeback victory on Sunday to earn a 6-5 win over Missouri Western at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lions battled back from a 5-0 deficit and posted nine hits in four innings to rally for six-straight runs.  Drew Quinones drove in two key RBI while Tyler Muehling and Vince Saladino each posted two hits on the day.  Brendan Feldmann tossed seven innings and Connor Law came in to hold the Griffons hitless in the final two innings as he earned his second win in as many days.

Missouri Western scored its first run in the third inning with the help of three hits and added another run in the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead.  The Griffons put together five hits and three runs in the top of the fifth to gain ground on the Lions.  Lindenwood stayed disciplined at the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning as two batters saw a combined 19 pitches to wear down the opposing pitcher.

Sam Baxter scored in the bottom of the fifth on a single up the middle by Paul Sherwood.  Ryan Sosnowski scored in the sixth inning to cut the gap to 5-2 and give the Lions a chance to make a move.  The Lions forced the Griffons to utilize their bullpen and the hitters took advantage in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Wes Degener drove in the first run of the inning on a single up the middle and Conor Behrens hit a line drive to center field to bring in Degener on a sacrifice fly.  Quinones drove in Baxter on a two-out single to center field to tie the game at 5-5.  Rayce Singbush opened up the eighth inning with a double down the left field line and scored on a single up the middle by Saladino to move ahead 6-5.  Law shut the door in the ninth to give the Lions a one-run victory on Sunday afternoon in front of dozens of alumni.

Lindenwood improves to 18-14 on the year and 11-9 in the MIAA while the Griffons drop to 15-15 on the season and 12-8 in conference play.  The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday night when they take on No. 20 Central Missouri for the final game of the season-series starting at 6 p.m. in Warrensburg, Mo.
