Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Ganz Scores Again, as Men’s Soccer is Edged in Overtime

The Lindenwood men's soccer team dropped its home-opening match in overtime on Sunday, falling to the Christian Brothers Buccaneers by a score of 2-1 from Hunter Stadium. The Buccaneers scored the game-winning goal in the 97th minute of the match.

After nearly 18 scoreless minutes to open the non-conference match, Lindenwood received the first significant scoring opportunity. Freshman forward Michele Ganz got behind the Christian Brothers defenders and was making a run towards the goal. Ganz was hauled down inside the goal box by an opposing defender, resulting in a penalty kick. Ganz fired the ball into the right side of the goal as the Christian Brothers keeper dove to the left side. For Ganz, the score was his team-leading third goal of the season.

Christian Brothers would tie the score later in the first half, netting the equalizing goal off of a free kick from 25-yards out. Xavi Lao was credited with the Buccaneer's goal.

Lindenwood and Christian Brothers remained tied throughout the second half, and the match headed into overtime.

Christian Brothers registered the only significant scoring opportunity of overtime, resulting in the game-winning goal. In the 97th minute of the match, Lao connected on a pass with teammate Djordje Djordjovic who fired a shot past Lindenwood goalkeeper Tim Licht, giving Christian Brothers a 2-1 victory.

Licht finished the match with five saves, including four during the first half.

Leon Silva led Lindenwood with three shots, while Ganz had a team-high two shots on goal.

Lindenwood moves to 1-3-0 on the season with non-conference loss. The Lions will travel to Arkadelphia, Ark. on Friday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. match with the No. 15 Ouachita Baptist Tigers.
