The Lindenwood field hockey team secured its fifth win on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Queens (N.C.) Royals by a score of 5-3 from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. The Lions received goals from four different players in the victory.
Bridget Hoogendijk opened the scoring for the Lions, scoring in the seventh minute of the match.
Caro Theunisz was credited was the assist on the Hoogendijk score. Hoogendijk has now scored in every game this season for Lindenwood.
Just 75 seconds after the Hoogendijk score,
Graycen Dave found the back of the cage to send Lindenwood ahead by a score of 2-0.
Greta Banholzer recorded the assist on the goal for the Lions.
Seven minutes after a Queens (N.C.) score in the 11th minute,
Jessie Londono tallied her first goal of the season to help Lindenwood reestablish its two-goal lead.
Shelby Easley assisted Londono on Lindenwood's third goal of the half.
The Lions would protect their two-goal lead into the second half.
In the 44th minute of the match,
Renee Duffy assisted Hoogendijk for her second goal of the afternoon, and team-leading seventh score of the year. Just over five minutes later,
Kaitlin MacLennan netted her first goal of the season, sending Lindenwood ahead by a score of 5-1. Theunisz notched her second assist of the game on the play.
Queens (N.C.) would score twice before the match came to a close, but were unable to draw even with Lindenwood, as it registered a 5-3 non-conference victory.
Skylar Starbeck earned her fifth win of the season in goal for Lindenwood, making one save.
Mackenzie Litterst relived Starbeck in the 54th minute of the match, and made a team-high four saves.
Lindenwood out shot Queens (N.C.) 17-12, while the Royals held a 7-4 edge in penalty corners.
With the win Lindenwood extends its record to 5-0 to begin the season. The Lions will take on Belmont Abbey on Sep. 28 in Davidson, N.C.
