Men's Basketball Works The Ball Inside For A Win At Central Missouri

The Lindenwood men's basketball team finished a perfect 2-0 road trip on Saturday afternoon with a victory over Central Missouri in Warrensburg. The Lions knocked off the Mules by a 72-63 score.

The turning point in the game came in the final two minutes of the first half and the first two minutes of the second half, when Lindenwood went on a 14-0 run. Central Missouri led for most of the first half and were up two late in the half when Jackson Price scored the final eight points of the period. That put the Lions up 36-30 at halftime. Lindenwood then opened up the second half with two layups by Chandler Diekvoss and another layup from Brad Newman to go up 14.

The Mules did fight back and got within three points with 3:19 remaining. Central Missouri had the ball with a chance to tie, but Adam Pohlman came up with a steal and found Diekvoss for a layup. Dominique Dobbs then scored on two straight possessions to help the Lions get enough cushion for the win.

On a day when its outside game wasn't working, Lindenwood won by getting the ball inside the paint. The Lions finished with 34 points in the paint, and the Lions shot 65.7 percent inside the arc. Lindenwood finished the game shooting 56 percent overall, while holding the Mules to just 48.9 percent shooting. The Lions also won the rebounding battle by 11, and had eight more points off turnovers.

Dobbs did most of the damage inside for the Lions, as he made nine-of-nine field-goal attempts. He finished with a team-high 19 points. Chandler Diekvoss had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Newman finished with 18 points, and Jackson Price had 12. Diekvoss led the team with five assists, and Price collected four.

Lindenwood improves to 13-6 on the season and moves back to .500 in the conference with a 5-5 mark. The Lions will return home this Thursday evening for a 7:30 p.m. game versus Nebraska-Kearney.
