Box Score The Lindenwood women's hockey team was defeated 5-1 by the Merychurst Lakers on Saturday afternoon from the Mercyhurst Ice Center in Erie, Pa.
 
The Lakers took a 1-0 lead just 54 seconds into the opening period. Mercyhurst maintained the one-goal advantage for the entirety of the first period.
 
Mercyhurst added two goals to its lead during the second period, and headed into the final frame with a 3-0 lead.
 
Lindenwood continued to trail by three goals late in the third period, and were sent to the power play following a Mercyhurst checking penalty. Lindenwood subsequently pulled their goalie in favor of an extra-attacker, creating a two-skater advantage.
 
Just 13 seconds after pulling their goaltender, Lindenwood broke through with its first score of the game. Britannia Gillanders netted her fourth goal of the season, cutting the Laker lead to just two goals with 3:08 remaining. Courtney Ganske and Kirsten Martin had the assists on the power-play goal.
 
The Lakers found the back of the net twice more before the end of regulation, bringing the game to its final score of 5-1.
 
Jolene deBruyn made the start in goal for Lindenwood, making a total of 23 saves.
 
Gillanders led the Lions with four shots. Cierra Paisley won a team-high 14 faceoffs.
 
Following the loss, Lindenwood moves to 6-15-1 on the season and 4-8-0 from within the CHA. The Lions will return home for a two-game series against RIT on January 26-27.
