The Lindenwood women's hockey team registered a 1-0 shutout victory over the Syracuse Orange on Friday evening from Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo. The shutout is Lindenwood's third of the season, and it is the second time that the Lions have blanked the Orange this year.
Goaltending dominated the game on both sides, as the contest remained scoreless until midway through the final period. With just over ten minutes left in regulation, Lindenwood's
Taylor Girard netted her team-leading 13th goal of the season to send the Lions ahead by a 1-0 score.
Cierra Paisley and
Sierra Burt each assisted on the Lindenwood goal.
The Lions successfully protected the one-goal lead for the remainder of the game, killing off two minor penalties during the final 7:19.
Jolene deBruyn stood tall all evening in net for Lindenwood, but had her strongest period during the final 20 minutes, stopping a game-high 16 shots in the third frame. For deBruyn, the shutout was her second of the season, and the third of her career.
Lindenwood finished the game 0-2 on its power-play chances, while Syracuse was scoreless on its four chances.
The Orange outshot the Lions by a 31-23 total for the game.
With the victory, Lindenwood improves to 9-17-1 and 7-10-0 in the CHA.
The two teams will return to Lindenwood Ice Arena tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. to conclude the two-game series.
