Lindenwood's Offense Comes Alive On Senior Day

The Lindenwood men's basketball offense came alive in its final regular season game of the season as the Lions defeated Missouri Western by an 88-70 score on Saturday afternoon in Hyland Arena.
 
Lindenwood never trailed in the game, and there were just three ties in the first half. The score was 24-24 with seven minutes left in the half, but the Lions outscored the Griffons 18-8 for the rest of the period. The Lions had a comfortable lead throughout the second half, and put the game away with a 12-0 run that started midway through the final 20 minutes.
 
The 88 points score by the Lions were the second-most during the MIAA season, and the most for the team since the calendar turned to 2018. Lindenwood made 11 three-pointers, the second-most this season, and shot a season-high 64.7 percent from three-point range. The Lions made 63.5 percent of their shots from the field during the game, including over 70 percent in the second half.
 
It was Senior Day for Lindenwood, and the team honored its lone senior, Landon Mills, prior to the game. Mills gave the team a spark off the bench as he played 21 minutes, scored four points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out one assist. Lindenwood was a +13 while Mills was in the game.
 
Brad Newman was the offensive leader for the Lions, scoring 31 points. He was the first 30-point scorer for the team since Nov. of 2016. Newman made 11-of-14 from the field, including five-of-six from three-point range. He also had three rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
 
Chandler Diekvoss had 16 points, and made six-of-eight from the field. He also a team-high four rebounds. Jackson Price and Max Meylor both finished with 12 points. Price added five assists to his offensive line, and Meylor was a perfect four-of-four from the field. Adam Pohlman had a team-highs of six assists and two steals, and scored nine points.
 
Lindenwood ends the regular season with a 16-12 overall record, and it finished tenth in the MIAA with an 8-11 mark. The Lions will play in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Tuesday evening with a 7 p.m. game at Fort Hays State.
