The No. 14 Lindenwood men's lacrosse team had a big second half on its way to a 10-8 come-from-behind victory over Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday afternoon at Hunter Stadium.
The Lions trailed 6-3 at the break, but outscored the Cardinals 7-2 in the second half. The defense allowed just six total shots and forced nine turnovers in the half, while the offense put 32 shots towards goal and turned it over just twice.
Lindenwood still trailed 8-7 late in the game when
Gabe Monteleone took a charge, which disallowed a Cardinals' goal. The Lions quickly went downfield and Monteleone found
Colin Domek for the game-tying goal with 5:22 left. Lindenwood received the ball right back and then
Sam Heaton scored the game-winner just 40 seconds later.
Sean Darroch would score an empty-net goal in the final seconds to clinch the game.
Heaton and Domek both finished with three goals, and other scores came from
Carter Collins,
Robbie McCarthy, Darroch, and
Garrett Brunsvold. Besides Monteleone, Darroch,
Brent Altieri, and
Nolan Corker assisted on a goal.
Joe Shelly led the team with six groundballs, and won 11-of-15 faceoffs in the game. Monteleone added five groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Max Hood also had two caused turnovers.
Lindenwood improves to 3-0 on the season. The Lions will be in action again on March 10 with a noon home game versus nationally-ranked Limestone.
