Three from Women's Hockey Earn All-Conference Awards

The CHA announced its end of the year award winners at its annual awards banquet on Wednesday evening in Buffalo, N.Y. Lindenwood's Sierra Burt was selected to the all-rookie team, while Jolene deBruyn and Taylor Girard were each voted as first-team all-conference performers.

"I'm very proud of these three young ladies, along with our entire team for the season they have put together," said Lindenwood head coach Scott Spencer.

Burt leads all Lindenwood freshman with 16 points this season. The Bayfield, Ontario native has eight goals and eight assists in her first season as a Lion. Burt totaled six goals and four assists against CHA opponents this season, giving her the fifth-highest point total among conference freshman during CHA play.

"Burt is well deserving of her award, said Spencer. "She is an extremely mature kid who has an eagerness to learn and a work ethic in all areas to get better.  Her vision makes her a great playmaker and has sneaky scoring ability."

deBruyn has started 25 games in goal for the Lions, posting a .926 save percentage and a 2.52 goals against average during that time. The junior netminder has earned nine victories, including three shutouts, and has totaled 768 saves. deBruyn, a native of Grande Prarie, Alberta, has six games this season with at least 40 saves. Against CHA opponents, deBruyn ranks third in the conference with a .938 save percentage.

"deBruyn got off to a little bit of a slow start this season but has recovered and been an absolute rock for us in the second half, said Spencer. "She is one of the biggest reasons why we have got to double-digit wins for only the second time in program history."

Girard leads Lindenwood in goals (13) and points (24), and is ranked fourth in the CHA with a 1.00 point per game average. In her 14 CHA games this season, Girard has registered six goals and eight assists, and is tied for fifth in the conference in points per game against CHA opponents. A product of Macomb, Mich., Girard has tallied two game-winning goals this season.

"Girard has been our MVP the whole season," explained Spencer. "The work she put in during the off-season to prepare herself has paid off.  She continues to mature and I'm excited to see her evolve this weekend and for the rest of her career with us."

Lindenwood will begin postseason play tomorrow afternoon, with a quarterfinal matchup against Penn State. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m. ET from HarborCenter in Buffalo, N.Y.
