The No. 23 Lindenwood wrestling team closed out the 2018 regular season with a rare tie against No. 19 Maryville in which the Saints were awarded the tie-breaking point to take the dual 22-21 on Wednesday night in St. Louis, Mo.
The Lions jumped out to a 12-0 lead after sweeping the first three matches including a pin for
Danny Swan in the 141-pound bout.
Austin Stofer extended the Lindenwood lead to 16-6 after his 11-2 major decision in the 165-pound weight class.
Heading into the final match, the Saints held a 21-16 lead over the Lions. No. 12
Jake Borgmeyer dominated his opponent en route to a 21-6 tech fall for the five team points. The dual ended in a 21-21 tie, but Maryville was awarded the extra team point via criteria two which is determined by number of pins for each team.
The Lions end the regular season with a 6-6 overall record and will head to the MIAA Tournament on Sunday in Newman, Kan.
