The Lindenwood tennis teams clashed with the Emporia State Hornets on Friday afternoon in Emporia, Kan. The women's team posted a 5-4 victory to secure its first MIAA victory of the season, while the men's team dropped a 6-3 decision.
On the women's side,
Anna Barbasheva and
Tereza Melicharkova won at No. 1 doubles, and
Laura Castro Milan and
Dana Minakova earned a default win at the No. 3 slot. Melicharkova had a win at No. 3 singles for the Lions, winning in straight-sets. Lindenwood had two wins by default at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
For the men's squad,
Jonas Bergbom and
Naoufal El Idrissi were responsible for all three of the Lindenwood victories during their match. The duo teamed up for a win at the No. 1 doubles paring, defeating their opponents by an 8-5 score. Bergbom won his match at No. 1 singles, and El Idrissi did the same from the No. 2 slot.
The women's tennis team improves to 2-7 on the season and 1-2 from within the MIAA. The Lindenwood men move to 5-6 and 0-2 inside conference action.
The men's team will return to action on Sunday afternoon for a 10:00 a.m. dual with Southern Indiana at home. The women's team has its next match against Missouri-St. Louis on March 27 in St. Charles, Mo. at 3:00 p.m.
