Lions See Lead Slip Away in 10-9 Loss to Washburn

The Lindenwood baseball team lost the series-opening game to Washburn by a 10-9 margin on Friday night in Topeka, Kan.

Game Overview: Washburn 10, Lindenwood 9
The Lions came out of the gates swinging as they put up five runs in the top of the first inning.  Lindenwood scored two runs on an Ian Nelson sacrifice fly and scored another run on an error by the left fielder.  Dominic Revetta poked a double to center field driving in a run and Brett Andersen brought Revetta around to score on a single.  The Ichabods plated two runs in the bottom of the first, but DJ Miller extended the lead back to four with an RBI double in the top of the second.

Again, Washburn cut the Lindenwood lead to just three after the bottom of the third.  Wes Degener hit a solo shot in the top of the fourth on a 2-2 count and Nelson drove in another run to make it an 8-3 lead for the Lions.  The Ichabods continued to fight back as two doubles in the bottom of the fourth kept it close at 8-5.  Miller put the Lions ahead 9-5 after an RBI single through the left side, but Washburn rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fifth to set up a comeback.  The Ichabods hung three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Lions 10-9 in the first game of the three-game series.
