Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 1 Women’s Lacrosse Captures RMAC Championship

The No. 1 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team defeated the No. 9 Regis Rangers by a final score of 19-14 in Sunday afternoon's RMAC Championship game from Denver, Colo. Lindenwood has now won three of the last four RMAC Championship Tournaments.

The Lions took control of the game early on, scoring just 52 seconds into the first half, to grab an early one-goal lead. Lindenwood tallied four of the game's first five scores to build a 4-1 lead with just over 20 minutes left in the opening half.

Regis closed the half on a 4-1 scoring run, including a goal with just four seconds showing on the clock, and sent the game into halftime even at 5-5.

Lindenwood opened the second half by outscoring Regis, 8-2, over the first 12:19. The Lions used that stretch to take command of the game, and maintained at least a five-goal lead for the remainder of the afternoon. Lindenwood ended the game with a 19-14 win over Regis.

Rachel Ortell was named as the RMAC Tournament MVP for her two performances in goal during Lindenwood's two games. Ortell picked up her 19th win of the season in goal for the Lions, stopping 11 shots, her second-highest total of the season.

Hannah Doughty and Allison Hurley each had five-point performances to lead the Lions. Both Doughty and Hurley had identical stat lines of two goals and three assists apiece.

Sophie Buelow and Cassie Stucklen each netted four goals to lead Lindenwood. Maria Johnson chipped in with three goals, while Hailey Gallant was the only other multi-goal scorer for the Lions. Carly Fedorowski and Garland Fiser each had one goal in the win.

Buelow and Shannon Modl each secured seven draw controls to lead Lindenwood.

Buelow, Doughty, Fedorowski, Hurley, Ortell, and Stucklen were each named to the RMAC All-Tournament team.

With its win, Lindenwood extends its winning-streak to 19 games, and improves its record to 19-0 this season.

The Lions will now await the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field during tonight's selection show at 7:30 p.m. CT. The selection show will be live streamed on NCAA.com. In the most recent set of regional rankings released earlier this week, Lindenwood was tabbed as the Midwest Region's top-team, which would put them in position to host next weekend's regional tournament.
