Men's Basketball Heads to Emporia State on Thursday Evening

Things to Know
• The Lindenwood men's basketball team will open up a two-game road trip inside the state of Kansas on Thursday evening. The Lions will take on Emporia State at 7:30 p.m. from White Auditorium in Emporia, Kan.

• Lindenwood has split each of its last two weekend series, including a 1-1 record last weekend from Hyland Arena. 

• The Lions began the weekend on Jan. 24 with a thrilling 85-80 victory over Central Oklahoma. Two days later, Lindenwood saw its two-game winning streak come to an end, as Northeastern State posted a 76-71 victory.

• Lindenwood has had each of its last three games decided by identical five-point margins. Overall this season, the Lions have had 11 games decided by single digits. Lindenwood is 3-8 in those contests.

• Lindenwood and Emporia State have met six times since the 2012-13 season. The Lions own a 4-2 edge in the all-time series, with each team claiming two victories from Emporia, Kan.

• Last season the Lions defeated the Hornets, 69-68 on Dec. 18, 2017 from Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.

Lindenwood Notes
• Brad Newman led Lindenwood in scoring for the 12th time this season and the fourth consecutive game on Jan. 26 against Northeastern State. Newman finished the game with 28 points (10-of-19 FG).

• Newman currently leads Lindenwood and is ranked fourth in the MIAA in scoring average at 20.7 points per game. In his nine games against MIAA opponents this season, Newman is averaging 25.1 points per game, the highest total in the MIAA.

• Newman has scored in double figures in 19 of his 20 games this season, and has surpassed the 20-point plateau 11 times.

• On Jan. 28, Newman was named as the MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week. During Lindenwood's two games last week, Newman averaged 35.0 points per game, including a career-high 42-point performance in the Jan. 24 win over Central Oklahoma.

• Chris King added 18 points off of the bench for Lindenwood on Jan. 26 against Northeastern State, his eighth game this season with at least 10 points.

• King hit three three-pointers in the game against Northeastern State, his 10th game this season with multiple three-point field goals made.

• King ranks second on the team in three-pointers made this season with 34 and among qualified shooters on the team is second in three-point percentage at 37.0 percent. Newman leads the team with 39 made three-pointers.

• Chandler Diekvoss tied for the team lead with six rebounds against Northeastern State on Jan. 26. Diekvoss  has now led or tied for the team lead in rebounding nine times this season, and is averaging a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game.

• TJ Crockett and Dominique Dobbs each also added six rebounds in the game against Northeastern State to hold a share of the team lead. For Crockett, the six rebounds established a new single-game career-high. For Dobbs, the six-rebound effort was his seventh game this season with at least five rebounds.

• Adam Pohlman dished out a game-high five assists against Northeastern State, matching his team-leading average of five assists per game. Pohlman currently ranks fourth in the MIAA in assists per game.

• Pohlman currently ranks fourth in NCAA Division II in assist-to-turnover ratio with a mark of 3.68.

• Diego Womack equaled a career-high with three blocked shots against Northeastern State on Jan. 26. On Jan. 24 against Central Oklahoma, Womack also blocked three shots. Womack ranks second on the team this season with 13 blocks.

• On Jan. 26, the Lions lost for just the second time this season when attempting more free throws than their opponents. The team now has an 8-2 record in those games.

• Lindenwood has a 3-1 record during Thursday games this season, all of which have been MIAA contests.

Scouting the Competition
• Emporia State enters Thursday evening's matchup with a record of 7-11, including a 2-7 mark from within the MIAA.

• The Hornets currently sit in 12th place in the MIAA, and have dropped four straight contests from inside the conference.

• Emporia State was picked for 11th place in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll, after finishing the 2017-18 season with a 9-19 record.

• In its most recent game on Jan. 26, Emporia State suffered a three-point loss, 80-77 in Joplin, Mo. against Missouri Southern.

• The Hornets currently rank last in the MIAA in scoring defense, allowing 79.7 points per game. The Hornets rank fifth in the conference in scoring offense, also averaging 79.7 points per game.

• Emporia State has five scorers averaging double-digit points this season. Malik Hluchoweckyj leads the Hornets in scoring, averaging 13.9 points per game.

• Justin Washington is leading Emporia State in rebounding, securing an average of 6.7 boards per game.
