Baseball Plates 14 for Win No. 20

GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood baseball used a six-run third inning to propel the Lions to a 14-12 win over future conference rival UMSL. The win is the Lions' 20th of the season and the 10th time this year Lindenwood has scored 10 or more runs in a game. Lindenwood is now 20-19 overall. 

UMSL opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first, but Lindenwood responded with a double from Ryan Venne and a single from Calvin Nowak drew the Lions and Tritons even at two. 

In the third, home runs from Kyle Stevens and Bryce Beckmann led the Lions to a six-run inning. DJ Miller, Mitchell Krebs and Kolby Schulte also drove in runs in the inning.

DJ Miller got another RBI in the fifth on an RBI single. He later scored on a two-run ground-rule double from Beckmann, drawing the score to 11-3 in favor of the Lions.

UMSL exploded for an eight-run sixth to tie the game at 11-11.

Neil Fischer broke the stalemate with an RBI in the seventh. Beckmann tacked on another run, driving in DJ Miller on an RBI single.

The Lions plated their final run on a wild pitch in the ninth inning. UMSL scored one in the ninth, but Lindenwood held on for the 14-12 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bryce Beckmann was the Lions' top contributor at the plate, going 3-5 with a home run, a double, two runs scored, five RBIs and a pair of steals.
- DJ Miller also tallied three hits, going 3-4 with a double, two runs scored, two walks and two RBIs.
- Kolby Schulte was 3-5 with three runs scored and an RBI.
- Jayce Maag came off the bench to go 2-2 with a double and a run scored.
- Calvin Nowak went 2-5 with a home run.
- On the hill, Nate Hillermann threw 2.1 IP with two hits,  three strikeouts and no walks.
- Michael Cessna picked up the win in relief, throwing the final four innings. He allowed only one hit and one walk while striking out four. Cessna is now 4-4 on the year. 

UP NEXT
The Lions travel to Southwest Baptist this weekend for a three-game series in Bolivar, Mo. Game one is set for 3 p.m. on Thursday.
