Baseball Falls to Southwest Baptist in High-Scoring Affair

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood baseball team (22-20-, 15-12 MIAA) lost 12-11 to Southwest Baptist (16-25, 8-19 MIAA) on Saturday in Bolivar, Mo.

DJ Miller put the Lions on the board in the first inning with a two-run home run to right center.  The Bearcats answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-2.  Ryan Venne was able to add another run on the board with a solo shot to right center.  Kyle Stevens tied the game with an RBI single, driving in Miller in the process in the top of the third.

The Bearcats again took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, resulting in a 6-4 lead.  Kolby Schulte brought the Lions within one run in the top of the fourth on his solo home run to left field.  Lindenwood struggled to keep the Bearcats off the board for the remainder of the game, as a four-run sixth inning gave Southwest Baptist a 10-5 lead.

Venne helped bring the Lions back in the top of the seventh as he belted a grand slam to right field, making it 10-9 in favor of the host Bearcats.  The Lions took an 11-10 lead on a fielding error by the Bearcats to end the top of the seventh.  Southwest Baptist took all the momentum away from Lindenwood, after regaining the lead in the bottom of the seventh and never let go of the one-run lead.
