Baseball Claims Weekend Series with 8-3 Victory on Sunday

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood baseball team (25-21, 17-13 MIAA) earned an 8-3 win over Northwest Missouri State (20-25, 15-15 MIAA) on Sunday in Maryville, Mo.

The Lions jumped on the board quickly by registering three-straight single to start the first inning.  Kolby Schulte scored on a fielding error by the Bearcats, and Bryce Beckmann later drove in Mitchell Krebs on an-RBI single to right field.  Ryan Sosnowski drove in the third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring DJ Miller.  Blake Beckmann had a solid outing on the mound, as he allowed just one run through the first three innings.

In the top of the fifth, Beckmann drove in another run to bring the lead back to three runs.  Ryan Venne continued to build on the Lindenwood lead after driving in two runs on a single through the right side of the infield.  Northwest Missouri chipped away at its deficit, scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth and another in the seventh, making it a 6-3 lead for the Lions.

Neil Fischer tallied an-RBI double to left field in the top of the eighth to make it a four-run game.  Venne drove in Sosnowski on a single up the middle in the ninth inning, giving Lindenwood the eventual 8-3 final margin.  Tyler Cassmeyer earned his second save of the season, tossing the final 2 2/3 innings and striking out three.
