Baseball Powers Past Missouri Southern to Even Series

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood baseball team (27-22, 18-14 MIAA) powered its way past Missouri Southern (31-17, 22-10 MIAA) with a 12-2 victory on Saturday at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

DJ Miller put the Lions on top early after a two-RBI single to right field making it 2-0 after the first inning.  For the second-straight day, the Lions had strong support from the starting pitcher.  Blake Beckmann went seven innings, tallied five strikeouts, and allowed just two runs on five hits.  Missouri Southern scored its only two runs of the game on a home run with two outs in the top of the fifth.

Lindenwood responded in a powerful way in the bottom of the sixth inning to regain its lead.  With two outs, Kyle Stevens started a rally with a double to left center on an 0-2 count.  Neil Fischer followed with a double down the left field line to bring in Stevens, and scored on a double by Bryce Beckmann in the next at bat.  Ryan Sosnowski drove in Beckmann on a double to left center, and Ryan Venne hit the fifth-consecutive double in the inning to make it 6-2.

Miller hit a two-out triple in the bottom of the seventh, and scored on a single up the middle by Stevens to extend the lead.  The Lions continued to pour on the runs in the eighth inning, as Mitchell Krebs brought in two runs on a single.  Krebs scored later in the inning, and Stevens ended the game with a two-RBI single to left center, giving the Lions the 12-2 victory in the eighth inning.
