On Thursday, the National Wrestling Coaches Association named Carlos Jacquez the 2019 NWCA Division II National Wrestler of the Year.  Jacquez went 30-0 at 125 pounds, and earned his first national championship in Cleveland, Ohio.
 
The now two-time All-American is the first national champion for Lindenwood wrestling since Terrel Wilbourn went undefeated in his 2015-16 senior season.  Jacquez took down conference-foe and No. 2 Josh Portillo of Nebraska-Kearney in the championship match.  The Aurora, Ill. native registered two takedowns in the third period to solidify his perfect season.
 
Last week, Jacquez was named Super Region IV Wrestler of the Year.  Jacquez was an All-American in 2017-18 when he took sixth place at the 2018 NCAA Division II National Championships.  The Aurora West product tallied five major decisions, four tech falls, and five pins in his undefeated junior season.  Jacquez will look to repeat as national champion next season, and is hopeful to earn his third-straight All-American honor in 2019-20.
