Lindenwood wrestling standout Carlos Jacquez received his National Championship ring on Friday.  Lindenwood president John R. Porter and head coach Jimmy Rollins presented Jacquez with the ring on the campus of Lindenwood University.

Jacquez was named NWCA Division II National Wrestler of the Year as well as Super Region IV Wrestler of the Year.  Jacquez went 30-0 at 125 pounds, and earned his first national championship in Cleveland, Ohio.

"It was a goal that I always had set and it was a goal that I was finally able to achieve," said Jacquez.  "Being the national champion was everything I wanted to be."

The now two-time All-American is the first national champion for Lindenwood wrestling since Terrel Wilbourn went undefeated in his 2015-16 senior season.  Jacquez took down conference-foe and No. 2 Josh Portillo of Nebraska-Kearney in the championship match.  The Aurora, Ill. native registered two takedowns in the third period to solidify his perfect season.

"The 2018-19 season was a tremendous one, not only for our program, but for Carlos as well," said head coach Jimmy Rollins.  "We're looking forward to a great senior season from Carlos."

Jacquez was an All-American in 2017-18 when he took sixth place at the 2018 NCAA Division II National Championships.  The Aurora West product tallied five major decisions, four tech falls, and five pins in his undefeated junior season.  Jacquez will look to repeat as national champion next season, and is hopeful to earn his third-straight All-American honor in 2019-20.
