The Lindenwood men's soccer team received three goals from three different players during Sunday afternoon's 3-1 victory over Upper Iowa from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. The win evens the Lions' season record at 1-1-0.
MATCH OVERVIEW
After scoreless action for nearly two-thirds of the first half, Lindenwood capitalized on an Upper Iowa turnover. In the 33rd minute of the match, Lindenwood's
Leon Silva intercepted a pass in the offensive zone, and ripped it into the back of the net, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Silva's goal would stand up as the only score of the first half, and the Lions carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Just 43 seconds into the second half, with the ball in the Lindenwood offensive zone,
Jacob Quinn extended the Lindenwood lead to 2-0. Silva and
Luke McBeth had the assists on Quinn's goal.
Nearly 13 minutes later, Upper Iowa cut its deficit in half, scoring its first goal of the afternoon, bringing the Lindenwood lead to 2-1.
In the 67th minute,
Matt Rush sent a cross pass from the right side of the field into the box, which found the head of
Thomas Hutcheson, who promptly directed the ball into the net. Hutcheson's score reestablished the two-goal lead for the Lions with just over 23 minutes to play.
Lindenwood protected its lead for the remainder of the game, earning its first victory of the season.
