The NCAA announced on Wednesday afternoon that Lindenwood University will host a Regional Championship as part of the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship. Lindenwood will partner with the St. Louis Sports Commission to host the event at the home of Lindenwood hockey, the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.
"This is a great day for Lindenwood University, the St. Charles community, and the greater St. Louis region," said Lindenwood Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics
Brad Wachler. "After the unfortunate cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Division II Championships Festival earlier this year, I am pleased that the NCAA has again recognized the ability of this University to provide a high-level championship experience for student-athletes from across the country. Our staff is committed to working diligently over the upcoming years as we prepare to showcase our University and its wonderful facilities at this event."
The St. Louis Sports Commission was also awarded the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Frozen Four which will be held at Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Mo. In all, the NCAA received more than 3,000 bid submissions from NCAA member schools, conferences, sports commissions, and cities vying to host predetermined rounds for 86 of the NCAA's 90 championships. The NCAA made more than 450 selections of host sites for preliminary rounds and final sites of predetermined championships in Divisions I, II and III, with most to be held from 2022-23 through 2025-26.
Lindenwood was slated to host the 2020 NCAA Division II Championships Festival this past May before its cancellation due to COVID-19. The 2020 NCAA Division II Championships Festival was set to include championships for men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, and women's lacrosse.
In April of 2017, Lindenwood was chosen as the host institution for the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse National Championship. The NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse National Championships will take place in May 20-22, 2022 at Hunter Stadium on the Lindenwood campus.
Lindenwood has hosted one other NCAA Championship event before, in 2017 when it hosted the NCAA National Collegiate Women's Hockey Frozen Four. Lindenwood has hosted NCAA Regional Championships in women's lacrosse (2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018), women's golf (2018), and wrestling (2019).
