Men's Basketball Hits the Road for the First Time This Season

The Lindenwood men's basketball team (1-0, 1-0 GLVC) will cross the river on Thursday to take on Maryville (1-0, 1-0 GLVC) at 7:30 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo.  The Lions and Saints each picked up a win this past weekend over Missouri S&T to start the 2020-21 season.

TJ Crockett is coming off an outstanding performance, in which he earned GLVC Player of the Week honors.  Crockett dropped 31 points on 55.6 percent shooting from the field.  The University City, Mo. native filled the stat sheet by adding five assists, five rebounds, four blocks, and four steals.  Romelo Burrell registered a double-double in his first outing with the Lions, as the 6-7 senior compiled 10 points with 12 rebounds.

Owen Long of Maryville had a strong game against the Miners as well just two days later.  Long scored 39 points, grabbed five boards, and dished out three assists.  The Saints were able to get a 76-67 win over Missouri S&T with the help of eight assists from Daniel Farris, and 10 rebounds from Kamto Eze.  The Lions hold a 4-2 series lead over the Saints, including an 81-76 win last season.

The Lions are coming off an 89-70 win over Missouri S&T, while the Saints earned a nine-point win over the Miners two days later.  In the season-opening victory, the Lions compiled 15 steals, including five from Burrell.  Lindenwood shot 44.6 percent from the field, including 40.0 percent from long range.  The Lions held the Miners to 30.6 percent shooting from the field in the second half, resulting in just 31 points for Missouri S&T in the final 20 minutes of play.  Lindenwood accumulated 42 points in the paint and 28 points off the fast break, while producing 29 points off forced turnovers.

In the 2020-21 GLVC Preseason Coaches Poll, the Lions were picked to finish third in the Central Division.  The Saints came in at the fifth spot in the Central Division, as the two teams were separated by 24 points in the polls.  Lindenwood will head to Quincy, Ill. on Saturday to take on Quincy at 3:15 p.m.  The Hawks were wedged between the Lions and Saints in the preseason poll, earning 33 points.  Quincy will play Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday night in St. Louis, Mo.
